About

CRB, Inc., a small car restoration business, was considering the implementation of a performance management system (PMS) for their employees. My proposal reviews the benefits of such a system for the owner and employees, consequences of not implementing a PMS, critical characteristics, and recommendations for implementing an appropriate performance management system for CRB, Inc. that incorporates the current reward system.

Challenge

Given that CRB has no previous appraisal or employee development program in place, it required a critical assessment of how to implement a PMS for a business this size in order to provide a sufficient return on investment and without creating a system that is overly complex.

Action

Performing an organizational needs assessment was an important first step, as it allowed me to better understand both the business need and the company culture. From there, I was able to outline my proposal for an appropriate performance management system. This included suggestions for a two-tier reward system based on job level, and setting standards for commission levels based on meeting, exceeding, or falling short of the stated expectations. Finally, I developed an evidence-based performance review form template with a professional development plan.

Result

  • My proposal was implemented.

  • 96% overall satisfaction rate from employees
